My name is Gabriela M. Heizer. I am an international trade professional with experience in import and export laws, regulations, and compliance.
As a Brazilian immigrant growing up in two different cultures, I understand and appreciate the importance of international business and international trade, which is why I focus in this area. I am a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois, having graduated with my Juris Doctor from University of Illinois Chicago. During that time, I focused on international trade law and international human rights law, gaining invaluable experience through internships and clinic work. I am also a Florida Atlantic University Alumna with a Bachelors in International Business and Trade.
My experience in international trade law began in law school during my time with TK Trade Law as a legal intern. During that internship, I was able to do legal research on client specific trade questions via statutory research, Customs Regulations, and CBP Rulings. I’ve dealt with issues such as: First Sale Rule, USMCA, country of origin, valuation, tariff classification, and Section 301 tariff exclusions. I have also lead clients in the CTPAT compliance. Currently at FTI Consulting, I assist companies in implementing programs such as CTPAT and Foreign Trade Zones, conducting third-party screenings, and creating written procedures to comply with new trade regulations.
Further, I have worked as a 711-Student Attorney at UIC School of Law’s International Human Rights Clinic. In this clinic, I worked directly with asylum seekers and helped them prepare their asylum applications. This has given me valuable experience with client communication and interviews. I have also developed precise attention to detail while preparing client applications.
I look forward to connecting with you!
